To Be Determined looks to the uncertainty of our present circumstances with the resolve to move forward. Drawing on works from the DMA’s collection, it proposes dialogues, imagines shared pasts, and explores notions of belonging. The title also alludes to resilience— particularly in the face of the COVID-19 pandemic and the ongoing challenges created by systemic racism and other forms of oppression.
Connecting across time and culture, medium and message, the works in To Be Determined suggest both the singularity of the current moment and its relationship to the past. As an indeterminate future unfolds, art continues to offer us possibilities for feeling present in the world, and of making it anew.
We invite you to delve deeper into To Be Determined in this digital experience.
